Lucia Cappella

Communications & Transit Associate

About Lucia

Lucia serves as the Communications and Transit Associate for SLATE-Z. She holds a B.A in History from Pomona College, where she concentrated on modern social movements.

Lucia got to know South Los Angeles in 2021, while interning with Communities for a Better Environment, a non-profit focused on environmental injustices plaguing low-income and minority communities in California. Throughout her internship, she worked on grassroots initiatives aimed at cleaning up polluted manufacturing sites and fostering the development of green spaces across South Los Angeles.

Lucia later interned as a story producer with an organization dedicated to creating video and photo content for non-profits, campaigns, and social enterprises. There, she helped cast and write a three-part video series for a nationwide disability rights campaign.

In addition to storytelling, Lucia is passionate about the arts and enjoys playing piano, singing, and building community connections through music. In her hometown of Denver, Colorado, she volunteered teaching free music lessons for low-income elementary school students and organizing musicians to perform for residents at a local retirement community.
