About Veronica

Veronica Melvin is a tireless champion of children and families.  She serves as the Chief Executive Officer of LA Promise Fund, a non-profit educational organization that works in South LA, Southeast LA, and regionally to provide quality education and enrichment programs that ensure African American and Latinx students are prepared for and succeed in college, career, and life.  

In the 10+ years of her leadership, the LA Promise Fund has opened two charter schools serving students grades 6-12 that prepare students to be academic achievers, athletes, and activists.  In addition, more than 100,000 students have participated in the LA Promise Fund’s 8 signature enrichment programs in the areas of girl empowerment, STEM, leadership development, arts, college readiness & success, and career pathway.  Since the pandemic, the agency has provided students, families, and the community with computers, Internet access, food pantry, micro-grants, health clinics (inclusive of COVID-19 testing and vaccines), and much more.

Previously, she served as the Executive Director of the Alliance for a Better Community (ABC), an organization that promotes equity for Latinos in the areas of education, health, economic development, and civic participation for the betterment of the Los Angeles region. 

Veronica earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Economies of Industrial Societies from UC Berkeley and a Masters of Public Policy from UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs.
