About Ruth

As the Project Analyst, Ruth supports SLATE-Z’s collaboration on LADOT’s Sustainable Equity Transportation Project (STEP), Universal Basic Mobility Pilot in South Los Angeles.

Ruth holds a B.A. in Environmental Science with a minor in archaeology from UC Irvine. Ruth joined SLATE-Z as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Fall 2021. Her experience prior to SLATE-Z includes interning with the Disadvantaged Communities Involvement program through the combined efforts of the UCI Anthropology Department and Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority. She performed critical qualitative coding and analysis to help assess the strengths and needs of disadvantaged communities to influence the reach of future water policy. Simultaneously, she served on her university’s student government as sustainability commissioner, where she led a grant funding board that maximized UCI’s sustainability initiatives within the undergraduate population. Prior to that, Ruth worked as a sales associate for a local non-profit providing accessible and high-quality goods to her local community.

Growing up in South Los Angeles helped shape Ruth’s values around community involvement to address vital issues like environmental and climate justice and sustainability.
