About Manny
As SLATE-Z’s Deputy Director, Manny Sanchez manages the execution of strategic projects, initiatives, and priorities for the organization and drives systems-level change for the South LA Promise Zone. As a resident of South Los Angeles, Manny has over 20 years of experience leading urban sustainability, economic development, and climate innovation programs both in the US and globally.
Inspired by his initial work as a Peace Corps volunteer improving local environmental governance and equitable access to inclusive green jobs, Manny's entire career has been dedicated to leading teams around evidence-based, locally driven solutions that help solve today’s most pressing urban development challenges. Most recently, Manny managed a three-year, multi-million-dollar US federally funded Tech for Green Cities initiative in Southeast Asia, which successfully brought to market climate tech innovation for the creation of greener and more climate resilient cities. Earlier in his career, Manny led a $20 million U.S. Agency for International Development-funded sustainability portfolio that worked to put frontline communities in charge of building thriving cities, fighting climate change, and determining their own economic futures.
Manny earned a Master of International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from the George Washington University.
